National Issues Paramount in 2010

According to a recent Gallup poll, a candidate’s stand on national issues matters more to the American voter than the candidate’s ability to help people at the district level. Although Democrats are evenly split on this issue with 46% going either way, there has been a steep increase in the concern of Republicans and independents about national matters. Results of a recent Gallup poll indicate 57% of independents and 63% of Republicans consider the candidate’s views on national issues more important than the candidate’s ability to help the people of the district.

This tells me that the American voter realizes that our country is in crisis at a national and international level. Politicians who rely on distributing government money to special interests within their districts will have difficulty in the 2010 election cycle.

Nowhere will this be more evident than in the Florida Congressional districts of 8 and 24. Democrat leaders are intentionally directing extra hundreds of millions of dollars in government money to these specific districts because of the two at-risk freshmen congressmen, Mr. Alan Grayson of district 8 and Ms. Suzanne Kosmas of district 24. While these districts have been historically conservative, democrats believe the added revenue will generate loyalty to Mr. Grayson and Ms. Kosmas.

Late Speaker Tip O’Neal once said “all politics are local.” But, progressive democrats are badly mistaken to translate this into “it’s all about bringing home the bacon!”
